Working to redo my résumé tonight as I start to look for post-Evergreen employment. This new version is rough and unproofed, but let me know what you think. Here’s what I’m building on.

The main additions: my World internship, multimedia and being EIC. I purposely left off an objective.

I’d love (non-meanypants) suggestions.

  1. “Out-of-the-box design” there is nothing out-of-the-box about that statement. I think creative or innovative design serve just as well. Also I think leadership should be it’s own bullet and stand alone. That’s what you get asking other editors for opinions.

    You’re amazing! I can’t believe how much you’ve accomplished.

thanks krista! i think you’re totally right about that wording choice

  3. Design-wise (because that’s what I do… sorta) … Make sure all your bullets are lined up vertically, from one section to another. And if you’re going to do a hanging indent, or whateverthehell kinda indent, make sure it’s consistent throughout. Just a small suggestion but if you’re going for journo stuff, I’d put your phone number in AP style maybe – with hyphens instead of periods. I know, I like periods better, too.

OH and you spelled it wrong… I think you meant SKILLZ.

Wow, your resume is more concise than mine! I’ve been updating mine, too, and it’s at two pages — looks like you’re aiming to keep it at one.

I’ve been told by P-I editors and other hot shots to pimp out every little thing you know and have accomplished. I just added an “awards and accomplishments” section to my resume, to keep those highlights from bogging down my work experience/education sections. There, I mention my staff awards, front page placement on the Houston Chronicle, even my top-ten weekly readership count on the blog I help update.

I’ve also been told that in your work experience, mention that you wrote content for both print and online products, and if your stories have reached section fronts at pro pubs or you were often on deadline, mention that, too.

I feel as though your “other positions” for the Ev doesn’t do you justice! But then again, you condensed those “other positions” while I bulleted each of my positions with descriptions. (As you can tell, my resume is very detailed. I might copy your idea of putting it up for scrutiny.)

Also, I put my education section below my work experience, because it’s my work that will get me a job, not my degree.

Good luck! Keep me updated, for sure!

kaci, you are right about the indents.

lynsi, im torn about the awards and accomplishments. most of mine are scholarships that dont really say much about me. i like the “print and online” tip too. and the pro fronts/section fronts too!

    you should post yours too!

    thanks guys!

OK how did you post this? In my blog, I tried both “Insert image” and “Insert media” and it’s not posting the PDF of my resume. I hate computers.

i made it a .jpg and uploaded it to photobucket

HOWEVER, you can host it as a pdf on google documents, which is easy to use

    google.com/documents

i dont think wordpress accepts pdf files
